Complete, cancel, reactivate, or delete a task
Choose the action that matches what happened to the work.
Use Done when the work is complete. Use Cancel task when the work is retired without being completed and you want to keep its record. Use Reactivate task when canceled work should become active again.
Canceled tasks are handled separately from ordinary status choices and may be excluded from active views and reports. Check the canceled-work filter when looking for one.
Delete task is a different, destructive action. The confirmation states that it removes the task everywhere, including its canvas node, progress notes, pins, and connections. Nested subtasks are kept but lose their parent and move to the backlog. This action cannot be undone through that dialog.
Read the confirmation before deleting. If you only want to stop tracking active work while preserving its history, cancel the task instead. Available actions depend on your permissions and the project policy.
Retiring recurring work
If the whole series should end, choose Stop recurrence on the active repeating task and check for any next occurrence already created. Canceling a recurring task is not a reliable way to stop the series: the reviewed recurrence flow can generate another occurrence when a task is canceled.
