Read task progress and workload reports

Use the report’s scope and definitions before interpreting a number.

Project and custom overviews summarize task work. The available reports include status and due-date information, effort, throughput, and time-based measures.

Review a report

  1. Confirm which project or projects are included.
  2. Check the date range and active filters.
  3. Check whether the tasks have the dates, completion history, or effort values the measure needs.
  4. Open the underlying work to understand an unexpected result.

Different measures answer different questions. A count of open tasks is not an estimate of remaining hours. A due-date forecast is not a delivery commitment. Lead time and cycle time should not be treated as interchangeable.

Use trends to start a conversation about blockers and workload, not to rank people from a single chart. Missing task fields, permissions, and filters can change the population behind a report.
